Re-import storage spaces pool

Have ever you thought of migrating your storage spaces pool into a different server, what you should do about it without having any impact to the production?. I would like to share some of the steps that might be beneficial and it could be part of your work-plan  Although it is unnecessary for you to migrate now, but you might want to consider this in long run.

  1. You should make sure that you did do a full backup on the storage that you would like to migrate
  2. Make sure that also the cabling, drivers are correctly attach to the target server, but if you are using iSCSI, this might not be applicable. But then again make sure the physical connection are in place if there is a needs for it
  3. From here, you would be able to see the storage pool on the target server and what you should do next is to set it to read-write access.
  4. Attach all the vdisk into pool and configure the disk to be online.
I would like to write more on the security perspective on the storage spaces in term of forensic as well as other area that might be a potential risk.
